8. John Ireland (2) was born on 20 Apr 1839 in Nelson, Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada. He was elected as President- Assoc. for the Detection & Apprehension of Horse Thieves in 1886 in Nelson, Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada.(51) He died on 10 Jul 1904 in Nelson, Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada. He was buried on 12 Jul 1904 in St. John's Anglican Church, Burlington, Ontario, Canada. (28)(10) (14) On stone in cemetary located in the church. He was elected as President of Nelson Protection Society in 1911 in Nelson, Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada. (52) Membership Card He has Ancestral File number PCI-4 and FGI8-7. He was a Farmer in Nelson, Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada. He was also known as Esquire.(53) Letter He Biography John Ireland. Born in 1839, John was the first member of the family to be born in the present house. He was the 7th child of 8 born to Joseph and Ruth Best and was named after a brother who had died in 1829, at 3 years of age.

According to his diary, at the age of 21, John travelled to England in search of a wife. In 1860 he met and married ELIZABETH BRECKINFIELD. Her sampler, embroidered when she was 13 years old, is on display in the upstairs sitting room. In 1861, Elizabeth gave birth to a a daughter Mary Ruth. In the same year Elizabeth and Mary Ruth died within 10 days of each other. The baby was 4 months old.

In 1868, John took for his second wife a local girl by the name of ELIZA ANN NAISBETT. She bore him 12 children, all of whom survived to adulthood. A picture of this family (including a daughter - in - law) hangs in the dining room, and a duplicate in the reception area.

During his lifetime, John was a director of the FRUIT GROWERS' ASSOCIATION, and is referred to in the FGA report of 1896. In 1886, he was also president of the Township of Nelson Association for the apprehension and conviction of horse thieves.

Eliza Ann Naisbett died in 1900, while John died in 1904

He was married to Eliza Ann Naisbitt (daughter of Bright Naisbett and Marie Walton) in 1868 in Nelson, Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada. Eliza Ann Naisbitt (2) was born on 21 Mar 1846. She died on 12 Aug 1900 in Nelson, Nelson Township, Halton County, Ontario, Canada.(55) Notice - "Death of Mrs. John Ireland
It is with profound regret that we are called upon to chronical the death of Mrs. John Ireland, which took place at her late residence in Nelson Township on Sunday last. The deceased was in her 55th year and had been ailing for over six months. Some weeks ago she was taken ill with typhoid fever, and was progressing favorably until a serious relapse occurred, which culminated in her death. The deceased was widely and favorably known throughout the whole section, and was greatly beloved and highly respected by all who knew her. For years and years the homestead has been known as a place where a warm welcom awaited all who visited the family, Mrs. Ireland's hospitality being proverbial. Besides a loving husband, she leaves a family of twelve children who mourn her loss. They are Mrs. J. Emerson, Appleby; Mrs. Jas. E. Stewart, Millgrove; Mr. Jos. B., Nelson; John A., Charlie, George, Breckon, Eddie and Misses Nellie, Flo., Maud and Fannie all at home. The funeral took place at St. John's cemetary, The Rev. F. H. Fatt officiating.
