Education

It is our Museums' history is to focus our education programming on the early years; providing hands-on experiences through a variety of learning modes. Our programs attempt to personify heritage by linking an identity and human story to the issues and ideas surrounding the objects in our collection to the rooms in the Ireland House. This process of personifying objects offers a direct and exciting way to ascribe the meaning and sentience of our collection to all of our visiting public, laying a foundation for the imagination.

All of our programming are guided and directed by the Ontario board of Education Curriculum namely: Heritage and Citizenship, Pioneer Life, Tradition and Celebration, Aboriginal People and European Explorers. This approach continues our tradition of purporting heritage locally, regionally, nationally and globally.

Celebrating Culture Days 2011

On September 30th, the Museums of Burlington hosted 240 elementary students from the Halton Catholic District School Board at Ireland House. As part of the Federal initiative program, 'Culture Days', our activity carousel gave the students an opportunity to experience all facets of the Museums education programming in one visit.

Our thanks to our Volunteers who assisted on the day and to Babe Santucci from the HCDSB who helped make this day possible.
