ATTENTION ALL LEADERS!

Are you a badge program leader? Then come join us at Joseph Brant Museum on Sunday May 20, 2012 for a celebration of all badge groups and learn about the badge programs we have to offer at our Museums! We will be having a BADGE PROGRAM BBQ in honour of all badge leaders and the programs we offer at the museums! DON'T MISS IT!

 

Pathfinders


 
WORLD EMBLEM – Canadian Mosaic
This badge satisfies several requirements of the Canadian Mosaic section of the World Emblem. Pathfinders will learn about Joseph Brant and his importance to both the Iroquois people and the citizens of Burlington. The role of women in Iroquois society will also be featured and the life of Pauline Johnson, Native poet, will be examined. Pathfinders will hear an Iroquois legend about the importance of corn and participate in making a traditional corn husk doll.
 
Guides

 
FOLK LORE BADGE
Guides learn of the importance of storytelling to the Iroquois people, both as a way of communicating and as a way of preserving history. They will also hear The Legend of the Dream Keeper and participate in making a dream catcher craft. This program meets the requirements to complete the badge.
 
HERITAGE BADGE
Guides will discover how the Iroquois people lived in the area several hundred years ago through a hands-on exercise with artifacts, and understand what happened once Europeans arrived. Joseph Brant and his involvement with the founding of Burlington will be discussed. The Guides will hear the Iroquois poem or legend about the importance of corn and participate in making a traditional Iroquois craft – corn husk dolls. This program meets the needs or provides the resources to complete this badge.
 
Cubs

 
ABORIGINAL AWARENESS BADGE
Cubs explore traditional Iroquois life through a hands-on exercise with artifacts. They will also discover what happened to the traditional way of life of the Iroquois people once the Europeans arrived on the continent. The Cubs will make a Voyageur pouch to take home. This program meets the requirements to complete this badge.
 
CANADIAN HERITAGE BADGE
At Joseph Brant Museum each Cub will complete all the requirements for this badge. During their visit, the Cubs will tour the museum, learn a Canadian folk lore tale, complete a simple map of Canada and learn about a famous Canadian. This program meets the requirements to complete this badge.
Brownies
 
KEY TO MY COMMUNITY – Aboriginal People in Canada
Brownies will explore the traditional ways of our Aboriginal people, play an Iroquois game, make a clan symbol pendant and hear the legend of The Three SistersThis program meets the requirements to complete this badge.
